Georgetown University is a highly-ranked private academic and research university that was established in 1789. Notably, the university was initially known as Georgetown College. It is the oldest Catholic and Jesuit educational institution in the U.S. The university is authorized by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. It has collaborations with over 300 international partners including Fudan University and Sophia University. Today, it is amongst the leading universities in the world that offer students and staff a unique educational experience.
Situated on the outskirts of Washington D.C., the university has three campuses in the city. The main campus is situated on a hilltop allowing enthralling views of North Virginia and River Potomac flowing nearby. The names of the colleges are Georgetown College, Robert E. McDonough School of Business, Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown Law Centre, Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, School of Nursing and Health Studies, McCourt School of Public Policy, School of Continuing Studies and School of Medicine. These schools focus on various subjects of arts, science, social sciences, medical health, business, law, etc. University’s International Affairs graduate program was ranked first by the Foreign Policy whereas the undergraduate program has been ranked fourth in the world.
The university enrolls more than 6,300 undergraduates from all 50 states and over 130 countries. More than 3,300 international students from more than 135 countries are pursuing their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees. Popular American actor Bradley Cooper is yet another popular alumnus of the university who holds a degree in English. Its alumni list also includes Antonin Scalia (the Chief Justice of U.S Supreme Court ), Savannah Guthrie (co-anchor of the Today Show), Edward Douglass White (former Chief Justice), Jerome Powell (Federal Reserve Chairman) and John Francis Kelly (former White House Staff Chief).
