Established in 1923, Fontbonne University is a private institution for higher education in liberal arts in Missouri’s Clayton city. It was initially founded as a women’s college in the Carondelet neighborhood of South St. Louis. In 1925, the university shifted the campus to its present-day site in Clayton. The college became a co-educational institution in the 1970s. It was in the year 2002 that the college received the status of a university. It has affiliation from the Roman Catholic Church. It has accreditations from the North Central Association (NCA) and the Higher Learning Commission (HLC).

Other facilities provided on the campus include parking, career guidance, and health care services. The university also makes arrangements for personal counselors to help students deal with stress, fear, and various other mental issues and concerns. The campus features three residence halls that provide housing facilities to the students in standard rooms, suites, and apartment-style accommodations. The campus is situated close to major public transits and highways, making it easy for students to commute.
