Founded in 1958 as the Brevard Engineering College, the institute got its present name only after 1966. The Florida Institute of Technology also known as FIT or Florida Tech is a privately-owned, non-profit, and research/ doctoral university which is set in Melbourne. The university was established as Brevard Engineering College to provide additional support to the organization of NASA in the year 1958. It was formed by Dr. Jerome P. Keuper who later became the first president of the university.
The university comprises five educational colleges namely Nathan Bisk College of Business, College of Psychology & College of Liberal Arts, College of Engineering and Science, College of Aeronautics, and Honors College. College of Engineering holds half of the student population of the university.
The university’s main residential campus covers an area of 130-acre and is situated near the Florida Tech Research Park and the Orlando Melbourne International Airport. The university provides numerous student services such as training, health insurance, health facilities, and campus security. It contains 6 residence halls and 2 apartment-style lodgings for on-campus stay.
Nearly 35% of students belong to Florida, 74% of all students came from the United States, and 25% of all students came from other nations. Florida Institute of Technology comprises of more than 120 student organizations. The university student organizations work in primary university financial support. Some of the organization includes the Campus Activities Board, Student Government Association, the Homecoming Committee, and FITV (CCTV Channel 99).
The university also has a newspaper published by the students namely Crimson. Not just this, FIT is home to a National Public Radio affiliate studio and station, 2 art museums, and an arts center with a performing area.

Dunwoody – Military woman, Joan Higginbotham – Electrical engineer, George D. Zamka – American astronaut, Kathryn P. Hire – Astronaut, Catharina Haynes – Judge, Johnnie E. Wilson – United States Army four-star general, Galen B. Jackman – Legislator and Albert Scott Crossfield – American naval officer, among many others.
