Farmingdale State College is also known as the State University of New York at Farmingdale (SUNY Farmingdale). It is located in East Farmingdale in the United States’ state of New York. There were more than 9000 students in the college as of 2016. It is a public college with an endowment of 5.8 million dollars as of 2016.
The establishment of Farmingdale State College was proposed by State Assemblyman John Lupton in the year 1909. The faculty teaches subjects like Physics, Chemistry, Engineering Technology, Business, Health Sciences, etc. The college has historical buildings like that of the Hicks and Cutler Hall, Knapp Hall, Thompson Hall, etc. Historical personalities like Theodore Roosevelt Jr had address students at the college’s second commencement exercises on the 26th of May 1920.
There is a memorial oak tree that was planted on the 4th of June 1921 to honor American soldiers who were killed in World War I. There are many research centers in the college like the Renewable Energy and Sustainability Centre and Solar Energy Centre. The student body enrollment shows that 30 percent of the same is a minority. There are 122 international students in the college.
Notable college alumni are Fernando Caldeiro (who is a NASA astronaut and had graduated with a degree in aerospace technology), Michael DenDekker (who is the member of the New York State Assembly from the 34th district), Sal DeVito (is an advertising executive and co-founder of the DeVito/Verdi agency of advertising), and DJ Richie Rich (a member of the rap trio 3rd Bass), among others.
