Elizabethtown College is a private liberal arts college in Elizabethtown, PA. It was established in 1899 by members from the Church of the Brethren. The college was named ‘E-Town’ by students and has been nondenominational since 1993. It is accredited by the Middle States Commission for Higher Education.
Elizabethtown, Pa. is located in the south-central region of the state, in the northwestern corner of historic Lancaster County. It features small shops and chain stores, eateries and coffee shops, a movie theater, and parks and sports fields. It also provides 81 percent of students on-campus housing.
E-Town maintains 19 academic departments that offer 58 undergraduate majors, more than 100 minors/concentrations, and numerous cooperative programs with other institutions. The core curriculum emphasizes the arts, humanities, and sciences. As per its saying, ‘Educate for Service’ E-Town students can take an interest in more than 100 clubs and associations, and the Blue Jays have 24 sports teams competing in NCAA’s Division III. Students can likewise appreciate many of the small school’s traditions, notably the Marshmallow Game, where students throw marshmallows onto the field during the annual men’s soccer game against Messiah College.
ETown has 123 full-time faculty members, out of which 91.9 percent hold doctorate and/or terminal degrees in respective fields. Also, the college has an average undergraduate class size of 17 students and the student to faculty ratio measures to 11:1. Built-up in 1999, the Elizabethtown College Honours Program is a member of the National Collegiate Honours Council. The Honours Programme was established with an endowment gift from The Hershey Company and is supported to a limited extent through this endowment. The program has kept on developing and keeps up enrolment of approximately 10 percent of the student body. In the spring of 2005, the Hershey Foods Company changed its name and along these lines, the program was renamed to the Elizabethtown College Honours Programme, supported by The Hershey Company.
Elizabethtown College offers more than $20M for grants every year. The following are some of the scholarships and grants offered directly from the institution. Elizabethtown College Merit-Based Scholarships: These scholarships are automatically granted to students dependent on their high school academic achievements and grades. Elizabethtown College Achievement Award: Awarded to incoming students in acknowledgment of scholarly accomplishment and achievements and commitments made outside of the study hall. Music Performance Scholarships: These grants are granted to first-year and transfer students who are exceptionally good performing musicians and who meet the challenges of Elizabethtown’s academic environment. Scholarships are available to the music and non-music majors. Grants are renewable for four years.
