Established in the year 1907, East Carolina University (ECU) was first set up as a teachers’ training institute. It is situated in the Greenville region of North Carolina and is the fourth-largest public university of the state. The parent institution of ECU is UNC System bearing academic affiliation from APLU and ORAU. It is accredited under the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges. Moreover, individual subjects bear relevant accreditations from their respective bodies.
There are three principal campuses, including Main Campus, Health Sciences Campus, and West Research Campus. ECU conducts 9 undergraduate colleges, 1 graduate school, and 4 professional schools. The major academic departments are dedicated to subjects like Arts, Fine Arts, Music, Science, Business Administration, Nursing, Social Work, Teaching, Social Work, and Physical Therapy. The continuing and distance education programs include continuing medical education, continuing professional education, intensive English, lifelong learning, and military training.
ECU also maintains Pirate Academic Success Centre, Speech Communication Centre, Honors College, Graduate School, Brody School of Medicine, College of Allied Health Sciences, College of Nursing, and School of Dental Medicine. There are adventure leadership programs, club sports, intramural sports, fitness clubs, aquatics, athletic camps, safety courses, team training, and youth and family summer camps.
