Dickinson College is a privately-funded institution of higher education in liberal arts located at Carlisle in Pennsylvania. Originally founded as the Carlisle grammar school in 1773, the institution was chartered as a college in the year 1783. It has affiliations from the Consortium of Liberal Arts Colleges (CLAC), the Oberlin Group and the Annapolis Group. The college has sports affiliation from National Collegiate Athletic Association Division- III, which allows the college to participate in the Centennial Conference as Red Devils.
The college maintains a beautiful 144-acre campus consisting of state-of-the-art buildings that feature administrative offices, academic and research facilities, residence halls, athletic spaces, and other support facilities. Kline Life/Sports Complex, Dickinson Park, Durden Athletic Training Center, and Biddle Field Complex house fitness and athletic facilities including gymnasium, fitness center, and basketball courts. The central library holds a wide collection of books, research guides, journals, databases, newspapers, and archives. It offers accommodation to students in its traditional residence halls, apartments and smalls houses.
There are several dining options on the campus that use local fruits and vegetables from the certified-organic College Farm and offer tasty, healthy and hygienic food. The Center for Civic Learning and Action, Wellness Centre and WDVC Radio Studio are the other facilities featured on the campus. Various dining, entertainment, and shopping options are available in downtown, which is in close proximity to the campus.
Dickinson College offers a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in 45 major and minor subjects. It also extends a range of certificate courses and pre-professional programs in business, engineering, law, and health. At present, a total of 2,345 students from 38 states of the U.S. and 49 foreign countries are enrolled at the college. The academic staff of the college consists of 272 affiliates who are highly knowledgeable and skilled. With an average class size of 15 learners, the student-to-faculty ratio at the college is 9:1.
The institution provides numerous opportunities to students in research and for internships. It also promotes students to participate in the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program. The students’ association runs over 120 clubs, community service organizations, publications, fraternities, and sororities that organize activities and events focused on music, drama, politics and other special interests.
