In 1898, Dallas Baptist University (DBU) was established in the town of Decatur as Decatur Baptist College. It was the first two-year junior college in Texas. The college relocated to Dallas in 1965 and became Dallas Baptist College. In 1968, it became a senior college and started offering four-year degrees in 1970. It officially received its present name in 1985. Currently, the university holds the recognition of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). It consists of seven colleges and two schools. It holds the affiliation of the Baptist General Convention of Texas. Also, various programs offered by the university are accredited by relevant professional bodies.

Situated in southwestern Dallas in Texas, the main DBU campus is spread across 384 acres. It is located at a convenient distance from downtown Dallas as well as downtown Fort Worth. The world-class campus offers excellent residential, academic and recreational facilities. The accommodation options include dormitories, Colonial Village Apartments, Brownstones, and the Williamsburg Village Townhomes. The campus is home to 50 student organizations. The 9 colleges and schools of DBU offer 85 undergraduate majors, 7 associate degrees, 73 dual master’s degree programs, 69 accelerated master’s and bachelor’s degree programs, and 2 doctoral degree programs. It houses 4,766 students, including over 500 international students from 60 countries across the globe. The university has a team of 132 distinguished full-time faculty members out of which 82% hold a terminal degree in their respective fields. It features a faculty-student ratio of 13:1. The university provides its students with exceptional career services like career counseling, resume writing, career fairs and interviewing techniques. It offers excellent employment and internship opportunities.

DBU has created numerously skilled, talented and qualified graduates over the years. Ben Zobrist, Jason LaRue, and Freddy Sanchez are professional baseball players. Gwyn Shea formerly served as the Secretary of State of Texas. Phil King is an accomplished American Attorney. John R. Rice was the Founding Editor of an influential fundamentalist newspaper called ‘The Sword of the Lord’. George Barna founded The Barna Group. David Brown formerly served as the Dallas Police Department’s Chief. Ron Simmons works as an Investment Advisor and a Politician. Lauren Scruggs is a well-known Fashion Journalist and Author. Lamar Hunt Jr. is the owner and President of the Kansas City Mavericks hockey team. Many other notable names are associated with the university
