Confederation College

Located in Ontario in Canada, Confederation College is an applied arts and technology institution that is funded provincially. It was established in the year 1967 during the development of Ontario’s college system. Spread across an area of around 550,000 square kilometers, it is the only public institution that services Northwestern Ontario. It has been recognized as an Indigenous Education Leader as it helps set policy for Indigenous learning in the post-secondary education sector. It offers Indigenous programs along with supports and services to its Indigenous learners.

Thunder Bay Campus is the college’s main campus, which is located on 130 acres of park-like property in Thunder Bay in Ontario. It has beautiful gardens, a river, and a network of walking paths. It is home to the college’s School of Aviation along with its Student Union offices. Also, the Confederation College of Canada has 8 regional campuses that are located in Dryden, Marathon, Sioux Lookout, Fort Frances, Kenora, Red Lake, Geraldton, and Wawa. These campuses of the university offer a wide range of programs in the disciplines of business, engineering, health, and several others.

The college offers around 58 full-time programs along with part-time credit and non-credit courses, pre-employment and skills training programs, specialty programs for business and industry, apprenticeship programs, and cooperative/workplace training programs. Each year, the college is reported to deliver exceptional education and training to an average of 6,500 full and part-time students every year, including over 1,450 international students from more than 25 countries. The student body of the university is constituted by a huge population of international and indigenous students. The college also provides financial scholarships, awards, and bursaries to help assist students with their education costs.

Confederation College has a remarkable alumni network that further adds to its rising popularity. It has proved conducive to launching the dreams of many notable personalities. Some of the well-known names include Glenn Schiller (host of TSN’s That’s Hockey 2Nite), Trent Opaloch (director of photography, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, District 9) and Georjann Morriseau (former chief, Fort William First Nation).
