Concordia University Texas

Concordia University Texas was established in 1926 as a high school for men called Lutheran Concordia College of Texas. In 1951, it adopted the curriculum of a junior college. The college gave admission to its first batch of female students in 1955. In 1965, the college was renamed as Concordia Lutheran College. In 1980, it turned into a four-year college. In 1995, it received university status and became Concordia University at Austin. It also obtained the membership of the Concordia University System (CUS) in the same year. The university finally received its current name in 2007. At present, it comprises four academic colleges and holds the recognition of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC).

Situated in northwest Austin in Texas, the university’s main campus covers around 389 acres. It is located at a convenient distance from the Texas Hill Country as well as downtown Austin. A 250-acre nature preserve is the most prominent feature of the university’s world-class campus. The campus offers several first-rate facilities and houses numerous academic, administrative and recreational buildings. With its two spacious residence halls, the campus provides students with excellent accommodation facilities. Besides offering exceptional academic amenities like moderns classrooms, laboratories, study spaces, and a library, it also offers facilities for various sports such as baseball, golf, basketball, soccer, softball, volleyball and tennis. The university’s four colleges offer more than 20 majors in various fields of education like fine arts, education, business & communication, natural & applied sciences, humanities & social sciences and nursing. It also offers several master’s, doctoral and online programs. The university is home to over 36,000 students and a team of highly qualified faculty members. It has an impressive student-faculty ratio of 12:1. The university maintains collaborations with many international and local universities and colleges to facilitate great study abroad and student exchange programs.

The university has produced many notable and successful graduates. Ashley Alaniz serves as the Executive Director for the Hispanic Scholarship Consortium. Scott Linebrink used to be a professional Baseball Pitcher. Ana Rodriguez is the winner of the title of Miss Texas USA 2011 and was named the third runner-up in Miss USA 2011. Richard John Neuhaus was an esteemed Christian cleric who founded and edited the monthly journal ‘First Things’ and authored several books. Leslie Swanson Anaya serves as the Ambassador for Foremost Foundation. Many other prominent people are associated with the university.
