Columbia College is a two-year university transfer college which is situated in Vancouver in British Columbia in Canada. The Columbia College Society administers this privately owned institution. When the college was established in the year 1936, it offered high school completion programs to students.
Columbia College saw 2004 as a future milestone as it became the province’s first private institution to offer Associate of Arts and Associate of Science degrees. In 2011, the college started to recruit a significant number of students from all around the world. Since 2016, the college has provided refugee bursaries and added five more bursaries in the year 2018 to internal refugee applicants. It has been a leader in providing educational programs to international students. Also, it is the oldest university transfer educational institution of British Columbia which was founded with an objective of fostering student success, encouraging lifelong learning, and providing ways to higher education.
Columbia College’s Main Campus is a five-story, 73,000 square foot building just east of Vancouver’s downtown core at 438 Terminal Avenue. The building provides well-equipped facilities to students and staff, including science laboratories (Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, and Physics), a library, and student lounges. The campus features a well-maintained environment for the staff, students, and faculty. In September 2017, Columbia College opened a new campus building, the North Campus, which is situated just east of the downtown Vancouver’s heart and False Creek’s natural waterways. It serves English for Academic Purposes and Columbia College High School students. Additionally, it has all the essential facilities that ensure a better learning environment.
Columbia College has enrolled around 2100 students from 61 countries across the world. It offers several 1st and 2nd-year university-level courses to the students. It even offers a University Transfer program to those students who have successfully completed their Senior High School. Moreover, it provides a High School program along with English for Academic Purposes program accredited by Languages Canada. Courses offered in the college can be transferred to the universities located within and outside of the province. Several events and activities are also organized in the college to feature a better student life experience.
