Clark University is an independent research institution of higher education, which was established in 1887 when Jonas Gilman Clark, a well-known businessman, offered a large endowment. The university offered first graduation class in 1902 and was recognized as one of the 1st all-graduate research universities in the country with departments in physics, mathematics, biology, chemistry, and psychology.
The university is a research university of liberal arts and offers ample opportunities to its undergraduate students through LEEP project financial support. The university maintains an intimate environment and is the second smallest university which is counted among the list of 40 Colleges That Change Lives and also the top 66 national universities by “U.S. News & World Report”.
The university offers around 39 undergraduate majors, 12 Certificate programs, 9 Doctoral degrees, and 29 master’s degrees including 2 dual degrees. Other than this, it offers more than 50 study abroad programs in 20 plus countries. There are around 215 full-time instructional faculty, 96 % of which have doctoral or terminal degrees. One can choose from a range of subjects, including humanities, social sciences, engineering, and natural sciences. Also, the university is known for offering programs in the fields of physics, geography, biology, psychology, and entrepreneurship. As the university is part of the Higher Education Consortium of Central Massachusetts, students can register to study courses at institutes like the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and others.
The university maintains several schools to offer higher academic facilities. Students can avail professional and graduate programs at graduate schools, including the school of geography, professional studies, Arts and Sciences, international development, community and Environment, management. All these are specialized in particular fields to offer students the best possible facilities.
Apart from these educational facilities, there are over 130 student organizations and clubs which are supervised by the Clark Undergraduate Student Council. The council is responsible for managing various clubs and conducting their events. Notably, Clark Cougars, an athletic team of the university, competes intercollegiate in 17 NCAA Division III. Also, there are numerous facilities offered at the college level.
In addition to this, the university has many notable faculties and alumni who are now the founders of several known companies, including the American Psychological Association, the American Physical Society, and Panera Bread. The graduates of the university are contributing to different areas of art, culture, science, entertainment, and technology. There are at least 3 living alumni who are billionaires and have won an Emmy Award and 3 Pulitzer Prizes.
