Chicago State University (CSU) was established as the Cook County Normal School in 1867 owing to the visionary efforts of John F. Eberhart. Initially, it used to be a teacher’s college at Blue Island. The institute was moved to Englewood in 1869. Eventually, it came under the control of the Chicago Board of Education and became Chicago Normal School in 1897. The institution was renamed as Chicago Normal College in 1913 and many new buildings were built on the campus. In 1938, it was renamed as Chicago Teachers College (CTC). In 1950, Northeastern Illinois University was established as a branch of CTC and in the next year, the State of Illinois started funding CTC.
