Formed by merging Alexander City State Junior College and Nunnelley State Technical College in the year 1989, the Central Alabama Community College is a publicly supported institution. It aims to provide affordable education to the students and is under the control of the Alabama State Board of Education. The college is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges to offer various degree and certificate courses.
CACC has three campuses, which include the Alexander City Campus, the Childersburg Campus, and the Talladega Center. A total of 1681 students have enrolled for undergraduate degree programmes as of the academic year 2018-2019. The degree courses offered by the institution include Associate in Applied Science, Associate in Occupational Technology, and Associate in Science. It also provides a Child Development Short-Term Certificate programme. The college strives to fulfill the academic, career, technical, senior college transfer, adult education, skills training, and training for industry/business needs of the communities.
Adult education and a variety of career training programmes in nursing, cosmetology, welding, business, and computer science are offered. A non-credit course in truck driving to receive a commercial driver’s license is also part of its workforce education. CACC is a member of the Alabama Community College Conference and the National Junior College Athletic Association. It participates in competitions in baseball, softball, women’s tennis, and men’s golf. Students are encouraged to explore their love for music through the Jazz Ensemble and Show Choir, both of which perform concerts on and off the campus throughout the academic year.
CACC truly believes that every student is a quality individual and an excellent representation of the college. The college has a strength of 82 teachers. It strives to provide a comprehensive and diverse academic and career learning environment through instructional excellence and comprehensive and relevant curricula. The college offers dual enrollment to eligible high school students. At CACC, qualified students can apply for the Academic Excellence Scholarship, the Ambassador Scholarship, Athletic Scholarships, Career Technical Honors Scholarship and the Performing Arts Scholarship.
The college provides financial aids to ensure that deserving students fulfill their educational goals. The institution provides distance learning, night and weekend classes, remedial courses, and career path counselling to support students and graduates. Summer boot camp, upward-bound, student support, substance abuse information and support, educational talent search, disability services office, library, testing centre, book-store are amongst the various services offered by CACC.
