California State University, East Bay

California State University, East Bay (CSUEB) was established in 1957 by the California State Assembly by the name of State College for Alameda County. It started holding classes at Cherryland’s Sunset High School in 1959 with just 25 teachers and 293 students. The college was moved to its permanent site in fall 1963 and was given its current name in 2005. Currently, the university holds the accreditation of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The university’s business programs are approved by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and legal programs are accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). Also, many other programs offered by the university are approved by various prestigious organizations.

CSUEB has three campuses across California’s San Francisco East Bay Area, Hayward, Oakland, and Concord. All the campuses feature top-notch infrastructure and provide students with numerous amenities. The Hayward campus is the main campus which houses University Library, Pioneer Bookstore, C.E. Smith Museum of Anthropology, Meiklejohn Hall and Pioneer Amphitheatre. The campus also has various academic buildings and offers excellent residential and dining facilities. Situated in Contra Costa County, the Concord campus is home to a huge library, Boatwright Sports Complex, and a students’ union building. The Oakland campus is a professional development centre located in City Center area of Downtown Oakland. Apart from offering academic facilities, the campuses also provide students with facilities to play a number of sports.

CSUEB consists of four colleges that offer an array of programs in over 100 disciplines of education like a business, economics, marketing, education, allied science, psychology, hospitality, tourism, management and communication e.t.c. More than 14,500 students, including a large population of foreign students, enrol in the university annually. The university has an outstanding team of more than 877 distinguished and experienced faculty members. It also has collaborations with a number of international universities to provide its students with a chance to participate in student exchange and study abroad programs.

CSUEB has more than 130,000 alumni, including a number of distinguished graduates. Judy Belk is the CEO and president of the California Wellness Foundation. Ruth Bley is the founder of Bleyco Incorporated. Keith Carson is the supervisor of Alameda County. Ping Cheng is the CEO of Delta Electronics. Scott A. Chambliss is an Emmy Award-winning production designer. Karen Colonias is the CEO and president of Simpson Manufacturing Company, Inc. J.R. Havlan is a writer who used to write for ‘The Daily Show’ and has won eight Emmy Awards. James M. Iglehart is a popular actor who starred in ‘Hamilton’ and ‘Aladdin.’ Byron J. Miranda is a meteorologist at WPIX 11 in New York. The university has many other notable alumni.
