An age-old renowned institution, Butler University (BU) was founded in the year 1855. It is a non-profit making private university of liberal arts. It is affiliated to the Council of Independent Colleges.
Butler’s more than 300-acre campus, within a historic north-side Indianapolis neighborhood, comprises nearly 30 buildings, playing fields, and a nature preserve. Located five miles from the heart of the city, the campus offers easy access to downtown. The university offers more than 60 major academic fields. It has 6 colleges, namely College of Liberal Arts and Science, Lacy School of Business, College of Communication, College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, College of Education, and Jordan College of the Arts. Graduate programs are available within five of the six colleges. The most popular major subjects at the university are Communication, Journalism, Education, Health Profession, Business, Management, and Marketing.
Butler is an independent university with a total full-time enrollment of more than 5,400 students and more than 400 faculty members. The University maintains a favorable student-to-faculty ratio of 11:1. Because of its size, the university can offer its students opportunities to work closely with the faculty. Butler students, currently represent 48 states and 34 countries, reflecting diverse cultures, interests, aspirations, personalities, and experiences.
The university has scholarship facilities based on academic performances. There are Talent and Merit Scholarships which are generally offered to the first-year students. An exclusive Butler University scholarship is the Freshman Academic Scholarship. Moreover, there are audition and departmental scholarships available for eligible high school students.
The chief feature of Butler University is student-centered personalized education providing experiential learning. Not only in academics but also in the sports sector, BU has made its name. It possesses a strong football team and volleyball team for women. The University has more than 160 student organizations, 12 Greek organizations, and 18 varsity athletic teams. More than 94 percent of Butler students are involved in campus activities and over 40 percent volunteer regularly.
