Broward College

Broward College is recognized as a public college that is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. It is considered as a part of the Florida College System. In the year 1959, it was founded as a part of a move to broaden two-year colleges of Florida. The current name was adopted by the institution in the year 2008. It is one among the schools that have been designated a title of “state college” offering four-year bachelor’s degrees. Broward College shares associations with several well-reputed organizations, including American Council on Education, Association of Governing Boards, and College Consortium for International Studies College Entrance Examination Board Florida. It is even accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award baccalaureate and associate degrees. In the year 2012, the college was named among the top 10 percent of country’s community colleges by the Washington D.C.-based Aspen Institute.

Broward College has three campuses that are connected with additional partnership centres throughout Broward County. The A. Hugh Adams Central Campus is the first permanent campus of the college that was originally opened with seven buildings on a 152-acre site. Also, it houses the Buehler Planetarium and Observatory, Ralph R. Bailey Concert Hall, and Rosemary Duffy Larson Gallery. The Judson A. Samuels South Campus is another campus that is situated on a 103-acre tract in Pembroke Pines. It is home to the college’s Aviation Institute and the joint-use Broward College/Broward County South Regional Library. The third campus of the college is the North Campus which approximately covers 113 acres and has grown to a dozen plus buildings including Omni Auditorium, the Toski-Battersby Golf Training Center, Health Science Center II and the Broward College/North Regional Broward County Library. All the campuses of the college are well-equipped with all the required amenities needed for a conducive learning environment.

The college offers associates and bachelor’s degrees along with certificates and diplomas. These degrees are offered across a variety of programs offered by the institution, such as Aviation, Architecture, Business, Accounting, Engineering, Graphic Design, Logistics, Marketing, and Visual and Performing Arts. The college has about 5,000 part- and full-time faculty and staff members serving over 63,000 students on an annual basis. The faculty of the college is well-qualified and experienced to cater to the modern needs of learning.

Apart from being known for excellence in academics, the institution is also recognized for its notable alumni members. Some among the distinguished personalities constituting the college’s alumni include Jim Naugle, former Ft. Lauderdale Mayor; Rita Mae Brown, a novelist; Marilyn Manson, a rock musician; Nancy Valen, an actress; Daniel Dickey, a humorist; Johnathan Walton, an Emmy award-winning reporter; and Mat Latos, a Major League Baseball player.
