Augusta University

Established in 1828, Augusta University is an open research university which is also known as the Academic Medical Centre. It is associated with the University System of Georgia (USG). The medical faculty opened during the beginning of the 19th century. Earlier, the university was known as the Medical Institute of Georgia. In 1867, a Scientific Department was opened and in 1873, it got affiliated with the Medical Department of the University of Georgia. The members of the board added a fifth year in the curriculum as the final year of preparation for college. And, the university became the only institution to offer a year for preparation. In addition, the Medical College was the first institute to be associated with USG.

The university comprises of four other campuses, namely the Health Sciences campus, Summerville campus, Forest Hills campus, and the Riverfront campus. Moreover, the university features three satellite campuses for a clinical study in Rome, Savannah, and Albany. All the campuses are known to have a peaceful learning environment and provide all necessary facilities to students. The infrastructure of the main campus is well-maintained and organized. Also, the campus is nearby to cafes, restaurants, stores, and many shops. Notably, all the campuses are built under the Georgia Board of Regents.

The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degree programs. Over 5,000 students are included in the bachelor’s degree courses, 1,749 students in the postgraduate programs, and about 1,297 students in the doctoral programs. The total strength of the university is known to be around 9,000. The institution consists of 10 schools and colleges within premises. The academic structure holds up to a number of subjects that are categorized into various departments giving students a wide scope to choose amongst the courses as per their areas of interest. Some of the well-known faculties are the College of Business, College of Arts and Humanities, College of Allied Health Sciences, Dental College of Georgia, College of Nursing, College of Mathematics & Science, and the College of Cyber Sciences.

Augusta University has a list of notable alumni that includes Joelle Carter (Famous Actress), Judith Ortiz Cofer (Author), Phil Gingrey (Congressman), Isaac S. Hopkins (First President of GIT), Matthew L. Nathan (37th Surgeon General of the United States), Darrell Kirch (AAMC President), Edward J. Cashin (Director for Study of Georgia History Centre), and Chen Be-Yue (Justice of the Court of Taiwan).
