AOMA Graduate School of Integrative Medicine was established in 1993 as the Texas Acupuncture Institute and started out with just 16 students. At present, the institute holds the accreditation of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). Its certain programmes are approved by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). The institute is recognized by the Texas State Board of Acupuncture Examiners. Also, it holds the membership of prestigious organizations like the Council of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (CCAOM), Society for Acupuncture Research, American Botanical Council, Texas Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (TAAOM) and the American Association of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AAAOM).

Situated in South Austin in Texas, the AOMA campus offers easy access to students as well as patients. The campus includes many administrative and academic buildings and spaces. It houses a number of well-equipped clinics, spacious classrooms and two Herbal Medicine centres. Also, it is home to AOMA Mind-Body Centre that hosts the majority of the community classes. The campus offers a plethora of facilities to the students to facilitate faster learning.

The institute offers master and doctoral programmes in the disciplines of Chinese medicine and acupuncture. It features a student-to-faculty ratio of 17:1 and houses 11 full-time and 19 part-time highly qualified faculty members. Over 16,000 patients visit the clinics every year. AOMA strives to provide students with all-round education to help them become a skilled and talented practitioner. The school has over 571 alumni including many successful and notable names. Rachelle Lambert founded and owns RA Harmony Asian Medicine. Also, she serves as the Research Team Lead and Unit Coordinator for the Colorado Acupuncture Medical Reserve Corps. Anne Cusick is a faculty member at AOMA and owns a private clinical practice simultaneously. Tio Bustillo practices at Whole Health Acupuncture in South East Austin. Sean Hanna serves in the US Navy. Diane Lowry owns HealthFocus Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in Virginia. Many other distinguished people have graduated from the institute over the years
