Founded in the year 1872 as the University College Wales, Aberystwyth University became the founder member of the University of Wales in 1894. Then its name was changed to University College of Wales, Aberystwyth. Sometime in the middle of 1900s, its name was again changed to University of Wales, Aberystwyth. It is a public research university in Wales. It has a current enrollment of over 8,000 students, studying across 3 chief academic faculties and 17 departments.
