- Applicants must have an upper second class honours degree or international equivalent in Computer Science or a related discipline with an appropriate mathematical basis
- Applicants who do not have an appropriate qualification but have appropriate industrial experience may be considered
- Applicant's knowledge of computer science must include at least the following:
- Knowledge of Object Oriented Programming (theory and practice): preferably in Java, but knowledge of C++ or C# would also be suitable
- Knowledge of Object-Oriented Design: preferably the use of UML in designing software
- Basic knowledge of software engineering and its processes, including software processes, system models and software testing
