The purpose of the master’s program is to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for a professional career or doctoral studies. This is done through coursework providing depth in one area of specialization and breadth in complementary areas.
The master’s program consists of 45 units of course work taken at Stanford. No thesis is required

The two-year master’s degree following the three-year bachelor’s degree from India is required Students whose undergraduate backgrounds are entirely devoid of some of the major subject disciplines of engineering (for example, applied mechanics, applied thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, ordinary differential equations) may need to take some undergraduate courses to fill obvious gaps and prepare themselves to take graduate courses in these areas
