  • This course combines writing workshops with seminar discussions. The practice of writing is interwoven with critical analysis and preparation for a professional career
  • Students will have the chance to generate an extensive portfolio of writing in various styles and genres and will work collaboratively with other writers, directors, and actors to develop their plays
  • Students will gain the research, writing, and practical skills that they need to write for the theatre or to prepare them for further academic study
  • Students will learn the craft of playwriting for the theatre, and the professional practices of the field through the modules and from contact with leading theatre-makers through theatre projects, masterclasses, lectures, and workshops
  • Students will also develop specific skills that they will need to work in the profession, such as how to pitch new work, apply for funding, and write to a commission. They will also be prepared for further academic study, particularly via practice as research

  • Applicants must have a 2:1 or equivalent.
  • If the applicant holds a qualification below 2:1 or equivalent, relevant prior experience of an appropriate nature may be considered
  • Applicants may have taken creative writing, theatre, drama, or performance as part of their undergraduate degree, or may have extracurricular experience in theatre and are now looking to specialize in playwriting
  • Applicants are also expected to show a commitment to theatre but extensive experience is not a prerequisite

  • With a minimum of 6 in each component

PTE: 61
  • With a minimum of 55 in each component

  • Students should provide evidence of any professional experience
  • Applicants may not need to provide evidence of ELP if they have completed a degree within two years of  their start date which has been taught in English
    • They will need to provide official confirmation from the institution where they completed their degrees that the medium of instruction was in English
