  • Applicants are expected to have:
    • a passion for film making;
    • a distinct and individual voice;
    • 2:2 or a second class degree or above in a humanities subject (film, media studies, languages, history, English, etc) or in any other subject relating to the art and craft of film making
  • Consideration is also given to non-standard entrants with relevant personal and work experience who can demonstrate the interest, commitment, and ability required to make their own films

  • Copies of transcripts and certificates which confirm qualifications obtained and pending with the complete breakdown of all subjects studied and marks obtained. These should clearly show the qualification awarded and the final overall grade/mark. If they are not in English, copies translated into English by an authorized translator is required
  • A personal statement of at least 500 words which should outline your reasons for applying for the course
  • Upload an additional personal statement which answers the following questions:
    • Which films and filmmakers are you inspired by and why?
    • What film making experience do you have and what are your strengths and weaknesses in this experience?
    • Can you describe the experience of group work? What was your role and what did you learn about working as part of a group?
    • Which role in film making do you most want to develop and why?
  • ELP requirement may be waived for applicants who have passed 12th English with a minimum of 70%
  • University normally invites applicants for an interview with the course director or another senior member of the teaching team. International students based overseas can arrange for an interview by email or telephone
  • The portfolio is also required of the applicant's work which includes short films or clips of longer works they have made (no longer than 10 minutes of a longer work). Please send this as a weblink 
  • A short video of applicants themselves is required answering the following questions:
    • What kind of films do you want to make/stories do you want to tell and why?
    • Why did you choose our MA film making to apply to, what are you looking to gain from the course?
    • NOTE - Please do not read answers from a script, the university would like to see applicants speak spontaneously to camera
