M.S in Applied Mathematics

The M.S. program in applied mathematics at Illinois Tech serves a dual purpose based on your background and career aims
The program provides a broad background in the fundamentals of the advanced mathematics that is applied to solve problems in the other fields
Students will study subjects such as Applied Analysis, Computational Mathematics, Probability, Discrete Applied Mathematics etc.
Students can craft their own coursework to meet their career goals by choosing one of the three options of study:
- Coursework only option
- Completing an industry-based project
- Writing an M.S. thesis
In addition, students can choose a specialization from a wide range of contemporary areas of applied mathematics:
- Computational Statistics for Data Science
- Discrete Computation and Optimization
- Industrial Mathematics
- Quantitative Risk Management
- Stochastic Computation

Bachelors	3.0 GPA Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, applied mathematics, or related quantitative fields from an accredited educational institution, with a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale Candidates whose degree is in another field and whose background in mathematics is strong are also eligible for admission and are encouraged to apply. All undergraduate prerequisites courses must be fulfilled, in addition to fulfilling all other degree requirements
Exams	TOEFL: 80 IELTS: 6.5 With a minimum section score of 6.5 PTE: 63 With a minimum section score of 53 GRE: 304 304 (quantitative and verbal), 2.5 (analytical writing)
Additional info	During the admission process, Illinois Tech waives TOEFL or IELTS requirements if the applicants: first or native language is English have received a degree from an English-speaking institution and have attended that school for at least two years school’s official medium of instruction is in English, per transcripts
