  • Applicants must earn an undergraduate degree from a regionally accredited college or university and have a strong record of academic achievement
  • Applicants also must demonstrate a strong basic foundation in accounting as indicated by completion of the following prerequisite courses:
    • Introduction to Financial Accounting
    • Introduction to Managerial Accounting
    • Intermediate Accounting, I
    • Intermediate Accounting II

  • Students are not required to submit a GMAT or GRE exam score as part of their application
    • If they voluntarily provide an exam score, it will be considered in evaluating their application for admission
  • The university looks for evidence of strong academic ability and qualities of character, such as motivation, maturity, tenacity, integrity, ability to work with others, self-reliance, and leadership
  • If students have been selected for an interview, the Graduate Admissions Office will notify them

Documents Required:

  • Two letters of recommendation are required
    • At least one recommender must be someone who has taught the student in the classroom, preferably in accounting, and can attest to the student's academic abilities
  • Submit a course-by-course credential evaluation of their official transcripts
    • Evaluations must be sent from the evaluator directly to the McIntire School of Commerce

  • Essay Questions:
    • Required: In just one or two sentences, please explain your near-term career goal
    • Required: Please describe a situation where you needed to collaborate or closely communicate with someone whose life perspective or cultural background was very different from your own
      • Please reflect on any challenges you faced, the strengths you brought to the situation, and areas for improvement
      • Please indicate what you learned about yourself and what you would do differently next time (500-word limit)
    • Optional: If there is further information that you believe would be helpful to the admission committee, please feel free to provide it (500-word limit)
