Chemical and Energy Engineering BEng
Duration3 Years
LevelBachelors Program
  • The energy needs of the world’s population keep growing, with the most common source of energy being fossil fuels. These energy sources generate carbon dioxide, which ultimately results in climate change
  • This course will equip students with the skills needed to work in the chemical, energy and related industries
  • Students will learn about fundamental science and mathematical concepts such as process modelling, thermodynamics and materials science, but they will also gain specialised knowledge and skills in topics like combustion processes, and renewable energy technologies
  • Students can choose to take either the four-year Integrated Masters (MEng, BEng) or the three-year Bachelor’s (BEng) degree on this course
  • The first two years of chemical engineering degrees share the same set of modules, focusing on the fundamental science and engineering concepts associated with the subject
  • Students will cover topics such as mass and energy balances, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, materials science and process modelling, as well as having plenty of opportunities to put that knowledge into practice in design and laboratory work
  • In Year 3 students will be able to build on this foundation as they develop their specialist knowledge, through modules on energy-related topics including combustion processes and renewable energy technologies as well as core chemical engineering subjects
