Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes. The goals of psychology are to describe, explain, predict, and change behavior (observable actions) and mental processes (thoughts, feelings, memories, beliefs)
The department focuses on four major themes throughout the undergraduate curriculum:
- Psychology is a science
- Behavior is a function of person variables, environmental variables, and the interaction of person and the environment
- Psychology has evolved in a socio-historical context, and its major theoretical perspectives reflect this phenomenon
- Socio-cultural context influences how psychological concepts are understood and applied
Students will experience an interactive learning environment, study challenging material, experience unparalleled research and internship opportunities
As early as freshman year, students will be encouraged to participate in research with renowned faculty
Students support each other through peer-advising, providing a unique environment where students become leaders by helping others
Graduates are prepared to continue on to graduate school to earn a master’s or doctoral degree in psychology
Students could also opt to attend professional schools, such as law, physical therapy, or medical school

Class 12th	No specific cutoff mentioned The applicant should be a high school graduate or be scheduled to graduate before enrolling at IUPUI The extent to which the student meets or exceeds the minimum subject requirements indicated below is considered. For admission to the School of Science, the student’s record should include the following course work English History and Social Science Algebra Geometry Trigonometry Laboratory Science Combination of the foreign language, additional mathematics, laboratory science, social science, or computer science courses Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete AP science and mathematics courses if available at their high school
Exams	TOEFL: 60 IELTS: 5.5
Additional info	Students with TOEFL scores of 60+ or IELTS 5.5+ are eligible for admission but should anticipate taking additional English for Academic Purposes courses along with their academic program IUPUI will be adopting a test-optional policy starting in Spring 2021 This new policy means the university does not require SAT or ACT test scores for admission or merit scholarship consideration Instead, the university holistically reviews each application for its individual merits and qualities, including academic performance and preparation, the strength and quality of the school curriculum, the applicant's recent grade trends, and class rank Students should declare a major when applying for admission so a departmental advisor can be assigned
