  • The Oxford Geography degree focuses on the interrelationships between society and the physical and human environment
  • Students are introduced to the full range of geographical topics in the foundational courses, which they can then follow up in more detail in the optional papers
  • There is considerable emphasis on interdisciplinary approaches in the course, with opportunities to explore the cross-fertilization between Geography and other disciplines such as anthropology, sociology, history, political science, economics, earth sciences, and biology
  • In the first year, all students take part in a four-day physical geography field trip at the start of term, as well as local skills-related field days
  • Second-year students will undertake a week-long overseas residential field course (currently to Berlin and Tenerife). Independent research in the field or in archives is also a key element of the dissertation with around 30% of our undergraduates choosing to do their dissertation overseas each year

Entry Criteria

Class 12th90%
  • Year XII qualification studied with either the CBSE (All-India SSC) or CISCE (ISC) boards
    • For CBSE board: Grades A1 A1 A1 A2 A2, with grade A1 in any subjects relevant to the course applied for (marks of 91 or above for A1 and 81 to 90 for A2)
    • For CISCE board: Overall grade of 90% or more, with grades of at least 95% or above in three subjects (including any relevant to the course applied for) and 85% or above in the other two subjects
  • It is highly recommended for candidates to have studied Geography
ExamsIELTS: 7.5
  • With at least 7.0 in each of the four components

Additional info
  • All candidates must also take the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) as part of their application, lasting 90 minutes and sat under timed exam conditions
  • Applicants who have been educated full-time in the medium of the English language throughout the two most recent years application deadline, and who remain in full-time education conducted in the English language until the end of the school year in their home country can be  exempted from English proficiency requirements
