  • The mission of the Communication Studies (CMST) is to prepare students to meet complex communication challenges across cultural, organizational, relational, and rhetorical contexts in the dynamic twenty-first century by introducing them to relevant theories and concepts and also providing skill-building, collaboration, and scholarship experiences to promote conscious communication competence in their personal and professional development.
  • The Communication Studies (CMST) department offers three major options:
    • General Communication
    • Leadership & Advocacy
    • Organizational Communication
  • CMST majors and minors must take all courses in their major, minor, options, concentrations, and licensures on a grade-only basis

  • Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 and earn a grade of a “C” or above in all CMST courses as well as courses taken through other departments to fulfill CMST major requirements. 
  • Students should have:

  • If the applicants with the following qualifications will be guaranteed admission to Winona State:
    • 3.00 GPA or top 50% class rank AND no ACT/SAT OR any ACT/SAT score
    • 2.75 GPA or top 66% AND ACT 21 or higher (SAT 1060)
