- The Civil Engineering Program is designed to enable the student, upon completion of the BS degree program, to enter the profession—for example, in industry, on a construction project, in a consulting engineering office, through a government agency—or to begin the graduate study, or both
- The program provides a broad traditional civil engineering background that focuses on basic theory and design
- Graduates of the Civil Engineering program at Columbia University will attain:
- An ability to design a system, component, or process to meet desired needs within realistic constraints such as economic, environmental, social, political, ethical, health and safety, manufacturability, and sustainability
- An ability to identify, formulate, and solve engineering problems
- The broad education necessary to understand the impact of engineering solutions in a global, economic, environmental, and societal context
