Story at the University of Salisbury began with a society in need. Research in 1921 found that the current higher education system in Maryland was not sufficiently fulfilling the requirement for teachers in rural areas of the county. The Maryland Legislature tried to resolve this the next year by establishing a new “regular school” (a two-year college for elementary school teachers) in one of the most rural parts of the state: the East Shore. In 1923, a commission selected a site near Salisbury. The new State Normal School started its operations on September 7, 1925, with only 105 students, under the leadership of its first chancellor, former Salisbury High School Principal Dr. William J. Holloway.
Salisbury University is a leading comprehensive public university in Maryland that provides outstanding, accessible education at the undergraduate level in liberal arts, engineering, business, nursing, health care, and social work. Also, it offers related masters and doctoral programs. Its overarching aim is to inspire students in a democratic society and interdependent environment with the awareness, skills, and core values that lead to successful citizenship, gainful jobs, and lifelong learning.
The university’s mission is to assist any student needing support with obtaining funds to cover their tuition costs. It thinks all students should create an expense plan and make wise decisions to fund their education before borrowing any funds. The university provides a host of financial assistance and payment options so that all students can benefit from university education. In the manner of grants, jobs, student loans, parent loans, scholarships, and other prizes, financial assistance arrives.
The financial assistance programs were tailored in such a way so as to help students with academic capability and inadequate financial resources. The services are primarily tailored to give a helping hand to those students who can’t finish their education without funding. Around 80% of university students get help from the university office. Students receive an assistance package that is calculated on the basis of their financial need as calculated by the FAFSA results and the tuition rate for their course
