The University of Pennsylvania, also known as Penn University, is a private Ivy League research institution which was founded in the year 1740. Situated in the University City neighbourhood of Philadelphia, it is recognized as one of the oldest institutions of advanced education in the USA. Founded by Benjamin Franklin, it is amongst the nine colonial colleges created before the announcement of freedom. Much of Penn's structure was designed by the Cope and Steward Son firm, with a core campus covering over 299 acres of area.
The university maintains four undergraduate schools which provide a combined 99 undergraduate programmes in sciences, business, humanities, and natural engineering. Providing a combine undergraduate graduation rate of 96 percent for six years, it also maintains 12 graduate and professional schools. It provides the option to practice specialized dual degree programs.
Till November 2018, Penn University has total regular work strength of more than 18,000 faculty and staff members. Apart from all this, more than 324,995 students have graduated from the Penn University since its beginning, including heads of state, Supreme Court justices, and the United States Senators. In addition, some Nobel laureates, Guggenheim Fellows, and numbers of CEOs have been associated with the university.
Not just this, some of the first schools and unions were formed by Penn only such as the first business school, first medical school and the first building of "student union" and organization. In 2018, Penn University received a donation of $13.8 billion making it the seventh largest donation of all other colleges in the U.S. Moreover, it also had an educational research fund of $1.02 billion.
